About

Bohol Enchanted

Hi, Welcome.

Bohol Enchanted is a quick getaway zoological and botanical garden. Situated   a   few   meters   across   the   Bilar Municipal Hall, you can easily find your way to the Bohol Enchanted Zoological and Botanical Garden. Once inside, you may find yourself lost in the natural beauty of the place.

Surrounded by centuries-old acacia trees, the place features lush flora and fauna, a plethora of ornamentals and eye-catching sculptures. Owned by the Tabel Family, the area was known by locals as a place where mythical environmental spirits roam, hence the name "Enchanted".

Today, it has been transformed into a beautiful botanical and zoological park that tourists and Bohol residents can visit, unwind, and enjoy the lovely landscape and vegetation. Upon entrance, people are greeted with plants and flowers in a wide assortment of colors and shapes and refreshing water features.

A trek through  the Maze Garden will give visitors a view of the variety of animals, starting with the rabbits' area where children can engage  in rabbit-feeding activities. The maze winds through wildlife and a butterfly sanctuary then to the Manobo Lapaknon Cultural Display area. Along the way, various ornamentals would be a delight to the eyes of plantitas and plantitos.

The garden is also a temporary home to rare birds and animals. According to Park Manager Chito Herediano, the primary purpose of establishing the Bohol Enchanted Zoological and Botanical Garden is to help in the conservation and preservation of various wildlife collected by an Indigenous People's (IP) group, the Manobo Lapaknon Tribal Community.

Locally   called   "mawmag",   the   Philippine Tarsiers live and hop freely from tree to tree inside the garden. The IP community believes that tarsiers are "pets" of the supreme being, Bathala, and considers it a privilege for them to take care of the oldest surviving primate on earth.

Aside from tarsiers, there are other wild animals such as the Malayan Palm Civet, Asian Palm Civet, Brahminy Kite or locally called "Banog", the Black-naped Oriole, Buff-banded Rail or "Tikling", water monitor lizards, Everett's Scoops Owl, Red Jungle fowls, monkeys, turtles, the Philippine cobra, and King Cobra or "Banakon”.

Bohol Enchanted serves as temporary shelter to these rare animals brought and cared for by the indigenous community and part of the proceeds of the establishment are used to assist livelihood programs for the tribe. A larger Wildlife Farm and Sanctuary is being developed in the town of Dagohoy.

Find yourself lost in the natural beauty of the Bohol Enchanted.
